One person killed in Rowan fire

PRESS RELEASE

In the early morning hours of May 1, 2019, Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to assist with a fully involved structure fire at 665 Rimer Road, in southeastern Rowan County. The fire was being fought by the Bostian Heights Fire Dept., South Salisbury Fire Dept., Rockwell Rural Fire Dept., Locke Fire Dept., Faith Fire Dept., and the Granite Quarry Fire Department; and early reports indicated a person may have not made it out of the residence.

RCSO Detectives responded to the scene, and began an investigation after it was determined that the occupant didn’t survive the fire. The remains of a white male was located inside the residence by fire fighters. During the course of the investigation the victim was identified as 51 year old Donald Ray Basinger. Mr. Basinger’s next of kin responded to the scene, and were notified of his death. RCSO Crime Scene and Fire Investigators from the Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office processed the scene. Foul play is not suspected at this point as the investigation continues.
