A picture of a de-militarized JROTC training rifle posted to social media caused a scare at West Iredell High School Thursday morning.

Captain Bill Hamby with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says there was never a threat of violence and that the fake weapon can’t even be fired. According to Hamby, the student accused of posting the picture has never been in trouble and meant no harm but was still suspended for not considering the context of his post.
