A tree fell on a wagon ride at Zootastic Park in Troutman Saturday afternoon, injuring riders.

Park owner Scottie Brown tells WSIC the tree feel between two wagons being pulled by a tractor.  Fifty or more people were on board when it happened.  The ride was stopped at the time so guests could feed the animals.

Iredell County EMS Director Blair Richey says the agency examined approximately sixteen patients, transporting five to local hospitals with minor injuries.  One patient whose injuries were described as more severe but not life threatening was flown to a trauma center.

Brown says the driver of the tractor tried to start it as the tree was falling, but was unable to do so meaning the tree fell between the wagons instead of on one.  He describes the incident as a “freak accident” that could have been a lot worse.
