Statesville City Council members will consider a policy tonight by which property owners can opt-out of city trash collection.

State law allows local municipalities to mandate this service and there has been recent interest in how property owners can seek 3rd party options. The proposal essentially formalizes what’s already in place.

Requests will only be considered at the start of the fiscal year. The policy mandates the Public Works Department to verify on a quarterly basis that those who have gone with a private vendor are still receiving the service. Anyone who’s not will again be billed by the City of Statesville.
