Statesville City Council continued last week’s special meeting today (Monday, April 9, 2018) and appointed Assistant City Manager Lynn Smyth as the interim manager beginning May 1, 2018. The appointment follows the resignation of City Manager Larry Pressley last month that will be effective April 30.
Council voted 7-1 to appoint Smyth, with Council Member C.O. Johnson voting against the motion.
Council also voted unanimously to begin the search for a new manager immediately and to seek outside help in that search. Smyth was instructed to have the names of several agencies and firms to consider at the April 16 City Council meeting.
Smyth was given a one year contract as interim manager at $140,000. Smyth is a 32-year employee with the City and functions as the Department head for Human Resources as well as the Assistant City Manager.
