Statesville City Councilman Michael Johnson is running for Mayor.
He’s the third candidate to file to run for that position and gives incumbent Costi Kutteh his first challenger who shares a seat at the table during Council meetings. Roseta Williams has also filed to run.
If elected Mayor, Johnson would have to resign from his current position. The Council would then select a replacement to serve until the end of his term in 2019.
There’s significant interest in Statesville’s two at-large Council seats as well where at least eight people have filed to run. That includes incumbents William Morgan and Michael Schlesinger.
