The owner of Statesville’s SonRise Cafe has spoken with WSIC after being accused by the Police Department of committing armed robbery in his parking lot.

Investigators say Gerald Kale’s son was meeting with someone about bonds that had been found in a storage unit purchased by that individual. Kale says he pulled out a gun, pointing it at the ground. He says he has witnesses.

Police say the victim reported the gun was pointed at him with a verbal demand for the bonds. According to Kale, this individual wanted half their value. He says he’s innocent.
