Police: Minors present during assault ahead of Mooresville standoff

PRESS RELEASE

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – At 4:11 a.m., Mooresville Police encountered a female with injuries on W. Iredell Avenue. When speaking with the victim, police were told her husband, Dan Costner, 41, of Mooresville had assaulted her and threatened her with a knife before barricading himself and their two young children, ages 2 and 7, in their home at 241 W. Iredell Avenue.

Multiple roads in the area were closed as police negotiated for the release of the children and Costner’s surrender. At 7:55 a.m., Costner walked out of the home and surrendered to police officers on the scene. He has been charged with Assault on a Female and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a Minor Present.

Costner is being held in the Iredell County Jail without bond.
