A Statesville man is dead following a single-vehicle Salisbury Road accident early yesterday afternoon.

According to police, a vehicle operated by 63-year-old James Rucker made an unusual turn from the road near Sharpe Street and crashed into a tree and concrete column.

Police say the driver may have suffered a fatal medical emergency leading to the accident.

The Wilson Lee boulevard Southside Grocery and Grill was robbed at gunpoint around 9:45 last night.

According to police, a black male wearing a black hoodie, jeans and black bandana over his face entered the store and demanded money with a handgun.

The money was placed in a blue thermal type insulated lunch bag.  There were no injuries.
