New freeway ramp to open in Statesville

Shelby — N.C. Department of Transportation crews will open a new ramp today on U.S. 21 to Interstate 40 eastbound as part of the $89.1 million interchange improvement project in Statesville.

The new ramp will open at 1 p.m., and the old ramp will be closed permanently. Portable message boards will be in place to help motorists navigate the new traffic pattern.
