Mooresville PD: No charges against deputy whose weapon fired at bowling alley

On Friday, May 25, 2018, Detective Craig Scannella of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office was off duty at George Pappas Victory Lanes in Mooresville. Scannella was in possession of a handgun in his right front pocket with no holster. When Scannella reached into his pocket, the handgun discharged. The projectile struck the ground and fragmented into several pieces. One of these pieces struck a 10 year old victim in the lower right side in the back and left a 1.5-2 inch abrasion. On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, the case was presented to Iredell County District Attorney Sarah Kirkman. Upon review, District Attorney Kirkman determine no criminal charges would be pursued.
