Mooresville PD makes arrest in Sunday morning shooting

MOORESVILLE, NC –Mooresville Police Department arrested Lamarell Quntwain Horton, 31, of Charlotte and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by felon, and discharging a firearm within the city limits following a Sunday morning shooting that started at the intersection of Broad Street and Piedmont Pointe Drive.

The incident began when the victim, Mr. Courtney Phifer, 32, of Winston Salem was sitting stationary in his vehicle attempting to exit onto Broad Street from Piedmont Pointe Drive. The suspect pulled alongside the victim and fired two rounds at the victim, but the victim was not hit. The victim called 911 and gave the description of the suspect vehicle.

Mooresville police located the vehicle as it was approaching I-77. Officers stopped the vehicle heading southbound on the interstate without further incident and the suspect was taken into custody.
