Mooresville PD charges two with identity theft

PRESS RELEASE

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – On July 11, Mooresville Police arrested two men for multiple offenses, including possession of counterfeit checks and stolen identities, after a traffic stop on West Plaza Drive.

Mooresville Police stopped a vehicle occupied by Olushola Ayoola, 48, and Isiaka Babalola, 30, for a traffic violation. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the initial officer detected the odor of marijuana and detected the occupants were engaged in criminal activity. Once other officers arrived, both suspects were placed under arrest. Evidence of identity theft and other financial crimes were located within the vehicle. Further investigation connected the two suspects with additional crimes being investigated by other law enforcement agencies across the Eastern United States.

Ayoola and Babalola were both charged with 9 counts of Identity Theft, 4 counts of Possession of Counterfeit Checks, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Babalola was also charged with Possession of Fraudulent Identification, an additional count of Identity Theft and Resisting Arrest. Both suspects are currently being held at the Iredell County Detention Center under $75,000 secured bond, and are being investigated for additional crimes. The United States Secret Service is assisting Mooresville Police in this investigation.
