Lincolnton, NC – On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested the owner of the J&M Discount Variety Store, located at 3485 East Highway 27 in Lincolnton, for selling large quantities of opioid pain pills. The arrest comes less than two months after Narcotics Detectives raided the store where the pills were being sold from.
According to detectives, the owner sold trafficking amounts of opioid pain pills from the store during business hours. Detectives conducted a surveillance and undercover operation where pills were purchased on multiple occasions. Detectives believe the store owner was making a substantial profit from the sale of the pills and the investigation will continue.
Mandi Uriah Smith, 39, of Devine Rd. Iron Station, was charged with two felony counts each of Trafficking Opium or Heroin by Sell, Trafficking Opium or Heroin by Deliver, and Trafficking Opium or Heroin by Possession. She was also charged with four felony counts of Maintaining a Dwelling for Controlled Substances and one felony count of Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance and Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance. Smith was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $478,000 secured bond.
Smith was charged in March for Trafficking Opium or Heroin, as well as multiple other felonies, after a search warrant at the store resulted in detectives seizing nearly 1-and-1/2 pounds of marijuana, more than 70 grams of oxycodone pills, two handguns, drug paraphernalia, and over $13,000 in cash.
Detectives say this investigation is a result of their continued effort to arrest as many people selling drugs as they can. Warrant Officer T. Briggs assisted narcotics in serving the warrant. Anyone with information concerning drug activity is urged to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Drug Tip Line at 704-736-8606 or Lincolnton/Lincoln County Crime Stoppers at 704-736-8909. Callers can remain anonymous and all tips are investigated.
