Iredell man accused of strangling woman with belt

Sherriff Darren Campbell stated that on June 13, 2017, Detective N. Rash with the Special Victim’s Unit was following up on a domestic violence incident that occurred on June 12, 2017. Michael Tarter was initially charged with Assault on a Female and given a $1500.00 bond after his initial appearance, he was also given pretrial release conditions ordering him to have no contact with the victim. Detective Rash followed up with the victim in this incident and discovered that the victim had in fact been strangled with a belt and that Tarter had also attempted to contact the victim while in the Detention Center.

Detective Rash took out additional charges for Assault by Strangulation, Violation of Pretrial Release Conditions and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Tarter’s total bond amount is $9500.00 secured.

Michael Tarter’s prior convictions are: Driving while License Revoked (two counts), DWI (three counts), and Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz.
