Assistant Statesville Fire Cheif Gary Styers recently joined WSIC’s Around the City to discuss.

(AUDIO).“We definitely encourage folks to see the professional fireworks. Fireworks, the easiest thing to remember is if you can’t buy them in North Carolina, there not legal.”

Anything that leaves the ground is also illegal.

Individuals must be at least sixteen years old to purchase or possess fireworks.

(AUDIO).“We also see an increase in fire that night as well when folks may shoot the fireworks , clean it up and throw them in the trash can . Next thing you know we have a fireworks show from the trash can”

If you’re planning to use fireworks or something similar, be sure to have a container of water for anything left behind that may need to cool off before disposal.

In everything – be safe, and have a great Fourth of July!
