CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing for another traffic shift on the I-40/I-77 project in Statesville along Interstate 40 East between mile markers 150 and 152 on Sunday night, Sept. 24, weather permitting. The shift involves moving the eastbound traffic off the current detour pattern over to new travel lanes.

Starting at 8 p.m., crews will close the left lane on I-40 East to remove concrete barrier from the detour to be reset along the permanent eastbound lane, and to place pavement markings. Once this work is complete, traffic will be shifted to the permanent eastbound left lane. The right lane will be closed in order to connect the ramp from U.S. 21 to I-40 East to the new pavement.

The detour will be removed when the traffic shift is complete. At midnight, crews will close the ramp from I-40 East to I-77 South so crews can connect the ramp to the new concrete pavement elevation on I-40. This will require the ramp to be closed up to six days.

While the ramp is closed, a detour will be posted for motorists from I-40 East to Old Mocksville Road (Exit 154). Motorists will turn left at the bottom of the ramp, then left to I-40 West, continuing to I-77 South.
