Members of the Statesville City Council met for their annual retreat yesterday touching on everything from equipment for the fire department to the possibility of a new splash pad.
Spokeswoman Nancy Davis says the group discussed the need to replace fire engines after receiving a demonstration from the department.
According to a city document, best practices call for a 25 year life cycle, with 15 years spent on front line duty. Based on that practice, two engines and a ladder should be replaced.
Davis says Council members will revisit the issue Monday and look to possibly pay for one engine in the current budget year and another at a later date.
