HEAVY ECLIPSE TRAFFIC POSSIBLE AUG 18-21

Heavy traffic is expected Aug. 18-21 on North Carolina interstates as motorists travel to and through the State to reach the path of totality for the solar ecplise.

Expect high traffic volumes on interstates and primary highways. Plan ahead and schedule extra time for all trips.

In addition, watch for pedestrians, turn on headlights, and be aware of distracted drivers. Do not view eclipse while driving or wear eclipse glasses when behind the wheel. Park vehicles off the road to view the eclipse, and follow instructions of all posted signs.

Construction of four additional general-purpose travel lanes (two in each direction) to approximately eight miles of I-85 from north of N.C. 73 (Exit 55) to north of Lane Street (Exit 63) in Cabarrus County. Interchange improvements are also planned for interchanges at U.S. 29/601 (Exit 58), Dale Earnhardt Boulevard (Exit 60) and Lane Street (Exit 63). This project will complete the expansion of I-85 through the county, providing a greater level of service for local and through traffic.
