Andy Smith has been named Interim Director for the City of Statesville’s Water Resources Department. Smith, 54, has held the position of Fourth Creek Waste Water Supervisor for 20 years.
Interim City Manager Lynn Smyth made the announcement this week, stating “We are very fortunate to have someone with Andy’s experience and capabilities working in the department. He has done a very good job since joining the City in 1996, and I am confident that he will have no difficulty with the responsibilities of managing Water Resources.”
Before coming to the City, Smith worked in the private sector, operating a small pre-treatment facility at a large industry. He quickly moved into the main office, serving in a supervisory role and supporting and assisting different facilities throughout the state. He has earned Grade 4 Wastewater, B Surface Water and Land Application State Certifications.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve the citizens of Statesville in the capacity of Interim Director,” said Smith. “My goal is to move forward the goals set forth by the previous management and to provide continuity for department operations until a permanent director is hired. I look forward to meeting the department challenges of today while planning for the needs of tomorrow.”
