I-77 southbound was shut down by a tractor trailer fire early Wednesday in the Cornelius area.
WSIC news partner FOX 46 reports the fire was the result of a diesel leak. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured and nobody else was involved.
The NCDOT anticipates the interstate will fully reopen around 8:30, however, crews on-scene hope to open at least one lane by 7:30.
FOX 46’s Lauren Dugan was on-scene Wednesday morning as crews worked to remove the tractor trailer:
Crews have lifted what’s left of burned tractor trailer and are using saw to break it apart. We are getting better look at damage after diesel fuel leak. I77SB still shut down causing a lot of tractor backups in Cornelius @FOX46News pic.twitter.com/V4lyFKtCmb
