The Statesville City Council is divided – on the future of the Vance hotel and on flag size regulations.
According to information from Spokeswoman Nancy Davis, the group voted 4-4 Monday night with the Mayor breaking the tie in favor of developing the Vance Hotel as market-rate apartments. William Morgan, Michael Johnson, Roy West and Keith Williams voted to proceed. Doris Allison, C.O. Johnson, Steve Johnson and John Stafford voted against the project. A decision on whether or not to loan the developer $2.6 million is expected next year.
Following a discussion on whether flags served as publicity or patriotism, the Council split the same as before with the Mayor breaking the tie to leave regulations as they are.
