Statesville City Council will meet Monday night, October 2 at 7 p.m. This is not a public comment meeting.

The James Pointe property, located along Turnersburg Highway, is on the agenda for satellite annexation. An 80-unit multi-family apartment complex is proposed to be constructed on 5.84 acres.

City Council will be asked to make two proclamations Monday night recognizing N.C. Public Power Week on October 1-7 and Fire Prevention Week on October 8-14.

Statesville is the oldest public power community in the state and currently one of more than 70 cities and towns that provide electricity to its residents.

Fire Prevention Week will feature the message “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out!” to stress the importance of having exit plans for homes, schools and businesses in case of fire. The Statesville Fire Department will spend much of the week educating citizens of all ages how to prevent fires and save lives.

The Fire Department will also present four firefighters, Walt Horne, Joshua Brouse and Lt. Neil Stutts and Lt. Anthony Armstrong with Life Saving Awards for their successful efforts of saving the life of Owen Connor in July of this year. Citizen Commendations will be presented to Shay Connor and Alisa Smyre for their assistance with CPR.

Fire Chief Spencer Lee will recognize three newly sworn firefighters: Matthew Harpe, Brett York and Lindsay Moose, who is the first female in the department in more than 15 years. Mayor Costi Kutteh will swear them in prior to the meeting.

The second hearing for the rezoning of Larkin Regional Commerce Park is on the agenda, but will have the caveat that it becomes effective upon the approval of the Development Agreement between the City and developers.

Statesville City Council will meet in the Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 227 S. Center St. The meeting is open to the public. The Pre-Agenda meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the third floor conference room.

The entire agenda can be viewed on the City’s homepage at or on Facebook at
