Man arrested - allegedly sold drugs from Statesville business

FACTS INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT
Sheriff Phil Redmond stated: The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division concluded a three month long investigation with the arrest of Eric Wilhelm. Narcotics Detectives began receiving information that Eric Wilhelm was once again selling Narcotics from his business (Eastside Billiards). Narcotics Detectives began conducting surveillance at the business as well as at numerous other locations throughout Eastern Iredell County and the Statesville area.
Eventually Narcotics Detectives were able to seize a total of 858 grams of Marijuana and in excess of $6,000.00 in U.S. Currency from Eric Wilhelm. The street value of the Marijuana seized is in excess of $4,500.00.
Last night around 8:30 P.M., a stabbing took place at 238 Deaton Street. Ryan Hooks and Jairus Byrd got into an altercation while at 238 Deaton Street. Byrd used a knife and stabbed Hooks three times and then fled the scene. Hooks was stabbed on the side of the head, in the chest and in the back. A short time later, SPD Officers Detwiler and Schenz located Byrd in the 1000 block of West Front Street. Byrd was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle and he was slouched down as if to hide. Byrd was then taken into custody for the stabbing.
Hooks was transported by EMS to Iredell Memorial Hospital. Once evaluated at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Hooks was transported to Baptist Hospital where he is currently in stable condition.
Byrd was charged with Assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and is being held at the Iredell County Jail under a $35,000.00 secured bond.

The inaugural class of the Iredell Citizen’s Academy graduated last night at the Board of Commissioner’s meeting. Eighteen of the twenty-five academy participants, some accompanied by family members and friends, were on-hand to be recognized for their time and commitment in attending the eight week course.
Twenty-five people registered to participate in the academy and attendance held strong during each sessions which averaged around 20-22 participants. We asked the participants to complete an evaluation after each session, and the presenters have received consistently high ratings with positive comments.
