FROM PRESS RELEASE

Statesville, NC –Mitchell Community College recently received notice of reaffirmed accreditation from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The College has successfully maintained its accreditation since it became a community college in 1973.

The College began the most recent reaccreditation process in 2013, culminating in an on-site visit by SACSCOC officials in October 2017. “This self-study is an important process to help us better serve our students and community,” said Dr. Camille Reese, Vice President for Instruction. “Our faculty, staff and students went above and beyond in this process, showcasing the work we do every day to help students be successful.” The College’s next reaffirmation will take place in 2028 unless other notification is received.

SACSCOC is one of six regional accrediting organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. SACSCOC grants accreditation to over 13,000 public and private associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites approved by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees. SACSCOC serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among diverse institutions.

Accreditation by SACSCOC signifies that the institution has a mission appropriate to higher education; has resources, programs, and services sufficient to accomplish and sustain that mission; maintains clearly specified educational objectives that are consistent with its mission and appropriate to the degrees it offers, and that indicate whether it is successful in achieving its stated objectives. SACSCOC conducts a comprehensive review of its institutions every ten years as well as a Fifth-Year Interim Report between reviews.
