The Mooresville Graded School district has canceled classes Wednesday, May 16 due to the number of teachers that have requested a day off to attend the “March for Students & Rally for Respect” being held in Raleigh.
Organized by the North Carolina Association of Educators, the event is aimed at seeking additional funding and overall support for public schools. The Mooresville Graded School District says due to the number of requests for time off, there are not enough substitute teachers and other staff to safely monitor students. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools previously canceled classes that day for the same reason.
Mooresville students will now have a full day Wednesday, May 9 instead of the previously scheduled early release. The school district posted the following message on Facebook concerning the change:
