On November 29, 2017 around 11:30pm, SPD officers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Good Deal Food Mart on Newton Drive which left one victim with gunshot wounds to both legs. Members of the Violent Crimes Collaborative, including officers and investigators from SPD, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and the NC State Bureau of Investigation, have been actively investigating this case.
Through interviews conducted by SPD and ICSO, probable cause was established and on Friday, March 2, 2018 warrants were obtained on Jaleel Dwan Dalton of Rita Avenue, Statesville. The charges included Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (“AWDWIKISI”).
Dalton was located and arrested Friday, March 2 around 6:30pm by a member of the SPD Crime Reduction Team, assisted by K-9 and Patrol Officers. He is currently being held without bond at the Iredell County Jail.
The collaboration of law enforcement agencies that began back in January continues to work tirelessly to obtain information on violent crime cases in Statesville and surrounding jurisdictions. Thanks to information gained from interviews with citizens, countless hours reviewing surveillance video and following up on other leads, another case has been cleared with an arrest.
