Sheriff Darren E. Campbell stated: Over the course of two days, Tuesday May 1 and Wednesday May 2, there were three incidents which occurred in Western Iredell County near the city limits of Statesville.

On Tuesday May 1, 2018 three individuals broke and entered Skateland located at 728 Buffalo Shoals Road. Money and items of food were removed from the building. Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene and a report was filed and surveillance footage was obtained showing the three suspects enter the building. Later the same day, Scott David Wood and Treyvon Latrell Turner went to Skateland and spoke with the owners and admitted to breaking into the business. Information was obtained on the third suspect, Tyleek Jaquez Taishon Gibbs. This information was forwarded on to detectives.

At 2:30 am on Wednesday May 2, 2018 Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called 132 Old Airport Road in reference to a fight involving a firearm. When deputies arrived and interviewed several witnesses, they learned a gun was displayed and several shots were fired as two subjects struggled over the gun. Detectives conducted an investigation and gained further information, the fight was over a break in which had occurred earlier. Kyzaih Derrian Malik McHenry was identified as the subject with the gun.

Based on evidence seized and statements taken, felony warrants were obtained by detectives for two Felony Counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill on McHenry.

At approximately 8:00 pm, Tuesday May 2, 2018 deputies were dispatched to the area of Butterfield Circle off of Highway 90 in reference to suspicious activity. The caller advised they seen a group of young black males walk behind the old store on the property and then walk back around it and get into a green Toyota Camry and speed away. The caller then stated, an additional group of young black males came from behind the building and were walking away from the area.

Deputy C. James was able to locate this second group a short distance away from the property and stopped and spoke with them. He learned one member of this group had been robbed at gun point by a member of the group which had left the area in the Camry.

Detectives became involved in this matter and learned Malik Sha’ron Sturgis may be a suspect. A line up was formulated with Sturgis in it. Three witnesses positively identified Sturgis as the suspect with the gun who committed the robbery.
Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained a Felony Warrant for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon on Sturgis.
