Sheriff’s Office: One of Iredell’s most wanted sex offenders arrested

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, February 27, 2017 The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Verification Unit received information concerning a registered sex offender, Matthew Wayne Stacks, having moved from his registered address, 715 Sullivan Road in Statesville, without notifying the sheriff’s office.

The information was verified and a felony arrest warrant was issued for Stacks. He was entered as a “Wanted Person” nationwide and was added as one of Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted. Numerous alleged sightings and other information was followed up on as the information came into the sheriff’s office but to no avail.

On Monday, March 5, 2018 Matthew Wayne Stacks was arrested in Mecklenburg County by deputies with the U.S. Marshal’s Office. Stacks was served with the Iredell County warrant for Failure to Notify Address Change and is being held without bond at this time in the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.

Matthew Wayne Stacks was placed on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry in 2012 for a conviction of Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, here in Iredell County. Stacks has also been charged prior for Failure to Register, Failure to Notify Address Change, Intoxicated and Disruptive, Second Degree exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree Exploitation of a Minor, Shoplifting, Communicating Threats, Resisting a Public Officer, Misdemeanor Larceny, Breaking and Entering, and Felony Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana.
