PRESS RELEASE

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were on routine patrol around 12:30 a.m. on October 14, 2018 when they encounter a vehicle traveling east on West Highway 150 which had a burned out tail light and the driver failed to signal a turn.

Deputy W. Spurling activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. John Wayne Goins, 47, of Cat Square Road, Vale, NC was the driver and a passenger in the car was Brian David Arnold, 28, of Kings Mountain, NC.

Because of a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car deputies asked Arnold if there was any marijuana in the vehicle and he advised there was marijuana. A search of the individuals and the vehicle turned up a hypodermic needle, marijuana, and methamphetamine. Officers also found a pistol underneath the driver’s seat. Lincoln County Communications advised both men were convicted felons and Goins was placed under arrest and transported to the magistrate’s office. Arnold, who originally gave officers a fake name, told the deputy he swallowed methamphetamine and was feeling sick. Lincoln County EMS was called and was transporting Arnold to Gaston Memorial Hospital when he jumped from the ambulance near Dallas, NC and fled on foot. Dallas Police and Gaston County Police searched for Arnold but could not locate him.

Goins was charged with one felony count each of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine, conspiracy to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was also charged with fictitious registration, driving while license revoked and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Goins was placed under a $40,000 secured bond.

Arnold was charged with one felony count each of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine, conspiracy to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, and identity theft. He is also charged with one misdemeanor count each of simple possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Anyone with information on Arnold’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 704-732-9050 or the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202.
