Sheriff’s Office: Child abuse left infant with fractured arm

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on 08/02/2017 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s office in reference to a ten week old child who had suffered a broken arm. The child was taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center by family members. Medical staff at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center notified the Iredell County Department of Social Services as well as the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. The report was assigned to Detective Sergeant Amy Dyson of the Special Victim’s Unit. Due to the extent of the child’s injuries, the child was transferred to Levine’s Children’s Hospital at Carolina’s Medical Center. Upon further evaluation, the child was found to have a fractured arm, a healing fracture on the other arm, and three healing rib fractures. Several additional witnesses were identified and interviewed, and as a result of the investigation, Kayla Marie Horne, 20, was charged with one count of Felony Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Physical Injury.

Horne was taken to the Iredell County Detention center where she was processed and given a $125,000.00 secure bond.
