Sheriff’s Office: $1.9 M of methamphetamine seized during Iredell traffic stop

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday April 9, 2018 deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on a black Nissan Pickup truck for a traffic violation on Interstate 40 Westbound at Mile Marker 144.

While conducting the stop, the deputies came in contact with Byron David Aguirre from Pasadena Texas. As the interaction continued with Aguirre, a sheriff’s office narcotic sniffing canine was called to perform a free air sniff of the vehicle. A positive indication was given by the canine and a search was conducted.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered approximately 4983 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine concealed inside the vehicle. The North Carolina Revenue Service estimates the value of the Methamphetamine at 1,993,200.00 dollars.

Upon locating the Methamphetamine, Byron Aguirre was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with the following: one count of Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Transport and one count of Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession. Magistrate T. Thompson gave Aguirre a 1,000,000.00 dollar secured bond.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated, “When you have drug seizures like this, we are saving lives and protecting our children and communities, since November of 2017 we have seized 51 pounds of Methamphetamine here in Iredell County with a total tax value of 9,253,200.00 dollars”.
