North Iredell student accused of soliciting nude photographs, threatening fake shooting

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, March 20, 2018 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in reference to sexual exploitation of a minor.

The incidents occurred at North Iredell High School and was reported to School Resource Officer (SRO) Deputy Reginal Allen. Deputy Allen gathered information showing Colby Scott Parks had enticed another student to send him nude photographs for money.

This investigation was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Harwell of the Iredell Count Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit for further investigation. Based on evidence and statements which were gathered in the course of the investigation, Sergeant Harwell was able to obtain several felony warrants for the arrest of Colby Park.

Colby Scott Park was arrested on Friday March 23, 2018 and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was served with the following charges: Three Counts of First Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, and Two Counts of Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Magistrate S. Watkins gave Park a 35,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges.

This investigation is still on going, additional charges may be added.

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On March 22, 2018, detectives of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Division, received a complaint from school administrators of a possible threat of a school shooting at North Iredell High School located at 156 Raider Road Olin, North Carolina.

Once Detectives received the complaint, they immediately went to North Iredell High School to investigate the threat. Once on scene they conducted numerous interviews. It was quickly determined, Colby Scott Park along with a juvenile had admitted to making statements as well as planning a school shooting. According to statements taken no one would carry it out and this was done in a “picking manner”.

While this investigation was taking place and detectives were on scene, a second threat was made by a second juvenile to shoot up North Iredell High School. This juvenile made the threat to numerous students in one of the classes. The juvenile along with numerous witnesses were interviewed. The second juvenile admitted to investigators, he did threaten to shoot the school up but had no means to do so but once he made some money and could buy a gun he would shoot up the school. Again this statement according to the juvenile was done in a “picking” manner.

All three subjects were charged with, Felony Making a False Report Concerning Mass Violence on Educational Property. The two juveniles were turned over to Juvenile Justice for processing.

Colby Scott Park was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Facility, where he went before Magistrate S. Watkins who placed Park under a $10,000 secured bond.

Sheriff Darren Campbell also stated, “Threats to a school or its students in today’s time will not be handled lightly and we will not allow the threats of violence to disrupt our schools or students. We will charge the persons making these threats to the fullest extent possible”.
