No funding to rebuild Statesville playground destroyed by arson

Young Statesville residents in the Parkwood Village neighborhood are without a playground after the Police Department says an arsonist set fire to it Saturday night.

His Mom Courtney who feels not having a place to play puts children at risk.

Pastor Thomas Young of Cochran Street Bible Church agrees. He’s heavily involved in efforts to help children in this community which is maintained by the Statesville Housing Authority.

Statesville Housing Authority President Darbah Skaff says this is the third time someone has set fire to the playground and says damages exceeded $150,000. At this time, there is no funding to rebuild it.
