Man accused of stealing and selling church’s mower

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, May 25, 2018 a reported was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in reference to an Aries riding lawn mower was stolen from a storage building at the Laura Memorial Church of God located at 2173 Charlotte Highway in Mooresville.

Detectives learned from the pastor and neighbors of the church about Newton Marcell Brown Jr., had been given permission in the past to stay in the fellowship hall at the church, and knew of the mower being kept in the storage building.

Detectives spoke with citizens in the area and discovered the mower was sold by Newton Brown to a local family and they did not know he had stolen the lawn mower from the church. The lawn mower was located and recovered for the church.

Newton Marcell Brown Jr., was charged with Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering, and Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Brown was arrested on Friday June 15, 2018, he was issued a 10,000.00 dollars secured bond by Magistrate D. Chambers.
