Man accused of sexual assault, interfering with emergency communications

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: At 1:38 am, September 9, 2018 Iredell County Emergency Communications advised Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies they were having difficulties getting information from the caller about a possible sexual assault.

Deputies arrived at a residence in Harmony and located the victim and Matthew James Williams at the residence. Deputies spoke with the victim and learned Williams had sexually assaulted her earlier in the night. Deputies also noticed several injuries to the victim. These injuries were noted and photographed.

Interviews were conducted of other individuals in the residence and as a result of the investigation Matthew Williams was charged with: Felony Attempted First Degree Forcible Rape, Felony Second Degree Forcible Sexual Offense, Misdemeanor Interfering with Emergency Communications, and Misdemeanor Assault on a Female.

Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was issued a 750,000.00 dollars secured bond by Magistrate J. Hollar.
