Lincoln man accused of kidnapping, rape arrested

PRESS RELEASE

Lincolnton, NC – A western Lincoln County man wanted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives was arrested early tonight by officers.

Brian Edward Leatherman, 43, of Matthew Miller Road, Vale, NC was found sleeping in the basement of his parent’s home and arrested without incident. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center without bond. He will have a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on April 17, 2018.

The truck Leatherman had been driving was located around 8:00 a.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018, on Highway 274 near the old North Brook Fire Department near his parent’s home.

Leatherman is charged with one felony count each of attempt first degree forcible rape, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, first degree kidnapping, restraint of an adult without that person’s consent, possession of stolen goods, larceny of a motor vehicle, felony probation violation, and obtaining property by false pretenses. He is also charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence protective order violation. Sheriff’s detectives are continuing the investigation and additional charges may be filed.
