Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on September 29, 2017 Deputy David Price of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit was notified by a concerned citizen that a registered sex offender, Brandon Koch had a Facebook account and was not using his real name. Deputy Price immediately began an investigation into Koch’s social media activities. Through further investigation Deputy Price was able to ascertain that Koch was using a different name and had failed to notify the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office of his online identifier. Sex offenders in North Carolina are allowed to have social media web sites but are required to notify the Sheriff’s Office of their online identifiers as is required pursuant to General Statue 14-208.9.
As a result of the investigation, Brandon Habit Koch, 28, was charged with one count of Failure to Notify his Online Identifier (Facebook).
On October 23, 2017 Brandon Koch was arrested by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and taken before Magistrate Chambers. Bond was set at $10,000.00 secured.
Koch was placed on the registry in 2011 after a conviction of Indecent Liberties with a Child. Other convictions include Driving While License Revoked (two counts), Resisting Public Officer, Second Degree Trespass, and Flee/Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle.
