Iredell man charged with statutory rape receives $2M bond

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Thursday, January 25, 2018 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office pertaining to a sexual assault involving a 14 year old female victim. The victim told the deputies, the assaults occurred between August 2017 and January 2018 at various residences where the suspect lived during those time periods.

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Harwell of the Special Victims Unit for further investigation. During the course of the investigation the victim was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. The victim identified James Dewitt Shoemaker, of 1406 Wilson Lee Boulevard, Statesville as the suspect in the incidents.

Based on all the information gathered during the investigation, detectives were able to obtain multiple felony arrest warrants on James Shoemaker. Shoemaker was arrested on Wednesday March 7, 2018 at his residence without incident.

Shoemaker was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where the following Felony Warrants were served on him: Three Counts of Felony Statutory Rape of a Child less than 15 by an Adult. Shoemaker received a $1,000,000.00 dollars secured bond from Magistrate P. Tutterow.

On Thursday, March 8, 2018 James Dewitt Shoemaker was served with two additional Felony Arrest Warrants for the charge of Statutory Sex Offense with a Child Under 15 Years of Age. Shoemaker received an additional 1,000,000.00 dollars secured bond for these new charges by Magistrate D. Sanders.
