Hamptonville man accused of sexually assaulting children

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Sunday February 3, 2018 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a child being sexually assaulted by a family friend.

Detective P. Dixson of the Special Victims Unit was assigned to the investigation. The victim was interviewed and disclosed, Coy Milton McDaniel, had sexually assaulted him between January 2006 and January 2011. The assaults occurred at McDaniel’s home at the time.

Multiple witnesses were interviewed and evidence was gathered. As a result of the investigation McDaniel was charged with six counts of 1st Degree Statutory Sexual Offense.

On May 4, 2018 a separate report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a child being sexually assaulted by a family friend. The victim was interviewed and disclosed several instances of sexual abuse by Coy McDaniel between August 2011 and August 2014.

As a result of this second investigation, Coy McDaniel was charged with four counts of Felony First Degree Sex Offense with a child, four counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child, and one count of Felony Attempted First Degree Rape of a Child.  There is no connection between the two victims.  Neither victim was aware of the other and did not know McDaniel was being investigated for sexual abuse.

Coy Milton McDaniel was taken into custody on the charges from both investigations and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was issued a 150,000.00 dollars secured bond by Magistrate D. Chambers. McDaniel has a criminal history including Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for Controlled Substances and Expired Registration Plate.
