Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Thursday March 1, 2018 the school resource officer, Deputy D. Kohnstamm, at West Iredell High School was asked by school administration members to assist them in searching a vehicle which was on campus.
The reason for searching the vehicle was, Jeremy David-Walker Langston, was being investigated by the school for possessing a vaporizer on campus and material used in a vaporizer on campus, which are violations of the schools Code of Conduct. When his vehicle was searched by school officials, they located a loaded pistol in a holster in the center console of the vehicle. When the gun was located they immediately notified the school resource officer. The weapon was seized and secured by Deputy J. Kohnstamm.
Langston was taken to the principal’s office where he was interviewed about the gun. At no time was the gun in the school or was there any threat or statement to use the weapon made by Langston.
Jeremy Langston was taken to the Iredell Count Detention Center where he was served with one Felony Arrest Warrant for Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. He was given a 25,000.00 dollars secured bond by Magistrate S. Watkins.
“This case is yet another great example of our School Resource Officers working hand in hand with school administrators to address and mitigate incidents in our schools. Principal Palmer and his staff at West Iredell High School and this sheriff’s office have an extraordinarily good working relationship, and due to this relationship, we were able to handle yesterday’s incident with no disruption to the school or have any student placed in harm’s way. Once again, I want the parents and students of Iredell County to know without a shadow of a doubt, we have a zero tolerance stance to violations of the law when it comes to incidents of weapons or threats to our schools, children and the administration”.
