A boy was injured after being grazed by a bullet in West Iredell Thursday morning.

Sheriff Darren Campbell says the approximately ten year-old child found the weapon in a vehicle at a Compton Park Road address and accidentally fired it.  The bullet grazed the boy’s head.  His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The investigation continues with the Sheriff’s Office looking at the weapon’s security ahead of the incident.  Campbell says charges are possible.

The child is thought to have possibly been outside to care for animals at the time.
