Man killed when tree falls on moving car in Statesville

STATESVILLE (WSIC) – Tropical Storm Michael has claimed a life in Iredell County.

The Emergency Operations Center tells WSIC an unidentified individual was killed when a tree fell on his car while traveling on US 64 in east Statesville. Larry Johnson lives across the street and described the scene to WSIC:

His son Brian lives next door and describes the situation as “weird” and “unusual” for the area.

In west Statesville, part of Bethlehem Road has washed away near the airport leaving a gaping break in the pavement.

Elsewhere – there are obviously widespread reports of trees down and flooding. In Huntersville, the fire department says it responded to 42 calls for service in just over a three hour period Thursday afternoon.

Duke Energy is reporting more than 51,000 outages in Mecklenburg County, 3800 in Iredell and 20,000 in Rowan.
