Firearm accidentally discharged inside Mooresville bowling alley

  

An off-duty Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy accidentally discharged a firearm inside a bowling alley Friday night, according to the Mooresville Police Department.

The incident happened at George Pappas Victory Lanes on Morlake Drive. While investigation is ongoing, the Mooresville Police Department says initial reports suggest a fragment of a bullet hit a 10-year-old after the bullet first hit the floor.

There were no serious injuries from the incident and no one was transported by EMS. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and the Mooresville Police Department are both investigating.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement about the incident:

“Sheriff Darren E. Campbell stated: On Friday May 25, 2018 at approximately7:54 pm an off duty Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was involved in an accidental discharge of a pistol while bowling at the George Pappas’ Victory Lanes in Mooresville.

“A minor child was grazed by a piece of shrapnel, however the child did not sustain a serious injury and was not transported to any medical facility for treatment.

“The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting an Internal Investigation into the incident and the Mooresville Police Department will be conducting a parallel investigation to determine if any laws were broken.

“The deputy involved has been placed on leave till the outcomes of both investigations are completed.”
